Adore have released new single Can We Talk, their third single following on from Supermum! and Postcards.

Ever wondered what a track which starts like Cocteau Twins, morphs into a motorik verse à la Sonic Youth before delivering a chorus worthy of Blondie at the height of their melodic pop majesty (Union City Blue, Dreaming)? Ladies and gentleman we are floating in the majestic, delicious brew of Adore's Can We Talk. Just when you thought they couldn't get any better...

As on previous single Supermum!, Minchin's lyrics don't shy away from difficult subject matter. Whether real or imagined, lines detailing coercive control make for uncomfortable reading:

I fall into your madness

Tell me darling, when can I pass this?

Strength falters

So I follow

Your rules

The spoken word section over modulated guitar is crushingly effective:

Sometimes I think you want me dead

I’d be left in the hollows, where I’d been lead

I’d be remembered just as you wished

As a professional griever, forever in bliss

All of which leaves us with two takeaways. Adore are one of Ireland's finest exponents of edgy, literate garage rock; and only by all of us calling out narcissistic, controlling behaviour is there any hope of reducing it.

Once again the track is produced and mixed by Gilla Band's Daniel Fox and it's mastered by M(h)aol's Jamie Hyland. It's written and performed by Adore who lineup as Lara Minchin on guitar and vocals, Lachlann Ó Fionnáin on bass and vocals, and Naoise Jordan Cavanagh on drums.

They recorded two tracks with Blowtorch Records Postcards and Stay Free Old Strangers. These appeared on a much sought after, long sold out 7" vinyl release produced by Mike O'Dowd, mastered by Richard Dowling with artwork by Conor Ostheimer. Only available now on this CD.
