my little tony is the lead single from bar italia's follow up to Tracey Denim - The Twits
Just after a few days after we nominated bar italia's brilliant Tracey Denim album in our Mercury Prize alternative An Gradam Lugh, the band have released a new single ahead of a new album - their second LP this year.
my little tony is the first track on The Twits which is due to drop November 3rd on Matador. Somehow finding space in a busy 2023, The Twits was recorded over eight weeks in a makeshift home studio in Mallorca with esteemed Italian producer Marta Salogni (Black Midi, Bjork, Romy) at the controls. They say "The Twits finds bar italia’s economical yet evocative songcraft taking raucous, mystic, unkempt, occasionally sinister, and wholly committed turns.
Initially not unadjacent to Iggy Pop's I Wanna be Your Dog, Nina Cristante’s bored girl vocals sing “your pretentious ways make me die a little” ensuring you are know you are ensconced in bar italia. The alternating vocal takes and fuzzed up vibe take on a Goo-era Sonic Youth with the languid, urgent approach we know and love from Tracey Denim. They are spoiling us.
