A juxtaposition of ethereal dreaminess and big loud fuzzy riffs, that's exactly what Dublin's Fulvetta is; one big organised mess, but one that's lush and chaotic at the same time.
Disregard is Fulvetta’s second single of 2023 following Lampshade. As we noted in our review at the time "Lampshade is not just a facsimile of classic shoegaze or familiar sounds. As their shimmering, shapeshifting density of sound shifts between genres, the influence of alternative rock acts such as The Smashing Pumpkins, and Deftones is also apparent. And there are poppier elements too particularly in the production of the beautifully judged bridge and outro."
Whereas Lampshade opened with a huge drum sound taking you straight into the more alt rock end of their sound, Disregard opens with the shimmering, intense minimalism of Cocteau Twins. Whereas they might have continued in a similar vein for the whole track, with Fulvetta you kinda know there's something bigger coming. That foreshadowing doesn't diminish the thrill as the track crashes into the lush chaos we crave.
The goal of this Dublin heavy shoegaze/alt rock outfit is to create an amalgamation of everything which made them fall in love with music and create their own unique sound. Dreamy, reverb-laden shoegaze pioneers my bloody valentine and Slowdive; classic 90s bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins and Hum; and fuzzed up noise from the likes of Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth.
With this brace of 2023 singles, Lampshade and Disregard, it's mission accomplished.
