Our weekly fix of the best new music as Julia Mason (aka The Decibel Decoder) brings us her new music review with singles from chest. Aceta, EKKSTACY she will be missed and Slender Pins White Christmas
Artist: chest.
Track: Aceta
The Paris-based band chest. unveils Aceta, the third single taken from their debut EP, set to be released on February, 2025 via Howlin’ Banana Records.
The band share the following on the track: "Aceta speaks to someone overwhelmed by anxiety, someone feeling stuck, unable to move forward, and uncertain about why. The song aims to bring comfort, offering a reminder that doubt is a natural part of life and that it’s important to embrace these turbulent phases, as they always pass with time."
This is a track that feels like it should be just a 2 or 3 minutes blast of sound, but thankfully it's just over 4 and a half minutes of the most glorious cohesive noise. It grabs attention from the opening bars, a scuzzy scratchy beat which pulsates at pace before the vocal leaps in. Punk techno, is that a thing? Who cares - this is the business. Pounding drums and a cathartic energy which is at times feels twitchy with tension and yet at others there is a freedom in the euphoric energy. Live this will be utter class.
chest. are a combination of three sound engineers, a pedal player, and an Englishman who likes to shout into a microphone. Their friendship was forged through a shared love of outrageous decibels and distorted experiments. Already active in various local bands, they couldn’t resist the call to make music together and satisfy a primary instinct: to make noise. Bring on that debut EP.

Artist: EKKSTACY
Track: she will be missed
EKKSTACY has shared his new unruly single she will be missed alongside its Jason Nocito directed music video. she will be missed follows EKKSTACY’s recent releases seventeen and mr mole, marking it as the third single since his acclaimed self-titled album from earlier this year.
Talking more about the track, EKKSTACY shared: "she will be missed is a song about leaving someone behind. I’m not really sure who, a lot of people have come in and out of my life rather quickly recently. It didn’t take me long to write this song, I made it in 2 takes off the top of my head. This song's how I’ve been feeling the last few years. The video is beautiful, and I’m excited for everyone to see it."
With driving drums and effortless vocals this is a thunderous track which does however allow for calmer moments of contemplation. The passion is there and the pace comes and goes which adds to the overall vibe. One minute full of pent up frustration yet the next attempting to make sense of it all. she will be missed does not follow the well trodden path of song construction, it is absolutely its own impassioned thing, and boy oh boy those drums.
2024 saw EKKSTACY pass a staggering 300 million streams on his breakout track i walk this earth all by myself. This year saw EKKSTACY grace the cover of GQ Hype, appear on the Spotify Top 10 Debuts chart on both sides of the Atlantic, and tour around the globe as both a headlining act and in support of the likes of Blink-182, and more recently, $uicideboy$. 2025 is looking bright indeed.

Artist: Slender Pins
Track: White Christmas
London based Slender Pins entered the race for the Christmas Number 1 with their version of White Christmas. This self-produced and self-recorded track was released on 13 December, and the band have now shared a video to accompany their take on the Bing Crosby classic.
Lead singer Ash swaps out Crosby's croon for his own trademark glam punk howl, over gurgling synths and a thumping Velvet Underground inspired stomp, punctuated by a blistering scuzzy solo from guitarist Alex. The opening cranking and grinding adds their own flavour, think more Stiff Little Fingers than Bing Crosby.
"There is no grand strategy here," says guitarist Alex. "The decision to release a Bing Crosby cover in 2024 is not part of some ingenious masterplan; it is as eccentric and pointless as it seems at first sight."
The music video is guaranteed to bring the Christmas mood, depicting Ash being sent a mysterious present, just what could it be? The band is playing a festive gig on 20 December, supporting Slady at the New Cross Inn, London where the track will be debuted live. Surely not to missed!
Slender Pins (Ash, Alex, Ed (drums) and Dan (bass)) are the London-based rock band with a simple message: the end of the world is nigh so you might as well dance. Slender Pins plan to release their debut EP next year - and this time they really mean it.
