Our weekly fix of the best new music as Julia Mason (aka The Decibel Decoder) brings us her review of new music with singles from Opus Kink I Wanna Live With You & and MOULD Cables
Artist: Opus Kink
Track: I Wanna Live With You
Brighton’s Opus Kink release new single I Wanna Live With You via Hideous Mink Records (Alien Chicks, Fake Turins, Black Bordello) & SO Recordings (Enter Shikari, DEADLETTER, Big Special).
It’s their first release of 2024 and arrives alongside news of their biggest headline show to date at London’s iconic Electric Ballroom on 11th December, preceded by a host of festival appearances throughout the UK and Europe in the coming months.
Opus Kink never fail to bring their own vibe to everything they do. The 6-piece blend jazz and punk delivered with the party in mind. I Wanna Live With You is no exception. Opening calmly enough its not long before the trumpet and then saxophone kick in. The howling vocals and an ever-increasing frantic instrumentation create a cacophony of sound. Welcome back Opus Kink.
Speaking ahead of their first release of 2024, frontman Angus Rogers stated: "We, Opus Kink, step once more into the light with new single I Wanna Live With You, a slice of gutter-pop romance concerning our desire for everlasting and fatal love. Take deep into your heart its voluptuous bassline, seductive overtones and irresistible beat, become infatuated with the navel-scream of its wild horns, and we could connect like we’ve never done before.”

Artist: MOULD
Track: Cables
Bristol newcomers MOULD announce their signing to Nice Swan Records (English Teacher, Opus Kink) and share pulsating new single Cables. At under 2 minutes it’s a raucous introduction to the band.
The trio channel the likes of Fugazi, Pile and Weezer in their rip-roaring sound (and anyone else hearing The Love Buzz? - Ed). Partnering up with Jon McMullen (Wet Leg, Michael Kiwanuka) on production duties and with live dates alongside Lip Critic this month, there is no doubt MOULD are a band we’ll be hearing more of in the coming months. Cables may be short and sweet but oft times quality is better than quantity and this is one of them.
Detailing the new track MOULD share the following: "Cables was written after moving from Bristol to London without any plan and wondering what the hell to do. It’s kinda about not having any direction & feeling aimless but also how it was exciting to be directionless and aimless. It’s also about cables.”
