Our weekly fix of the best new music as Julia Mason (aka The Decibel Decoder) brings us her new music review with singles from chest. Blood On Your Doorstep and bdrmm Lake Disappointment

Artist: chest.
Track: Blood On Your Doorstep

Paris-based band chest. unveils Blood On Your Doorstep, the last single taken from their debut EP, set to be released on 28 February via Howlin’ Banana Records.
Lyrically Blood on your Doorstep speaks about the gap between the rich and the poor. It tackles the idea that we are all guilty of having "normalized" the existence of extreme poverty that surrounds us daily, to the point where we barely even notice it anymore.
The instrumentation reflects this harsh reality. Ferocious vocals and an intensity reminiscent of London's Crows, the track is urgent as well as it should be, with thunderous drums and an edginess enhanced by that percussive element which sits just below the ensuing mayhem.
There is a heaviness here, a sadness at the situation described. However this reviewer was surprised the track was almost 4 minutes long. It whizzed by and to be honest was played 3 or 4 times consecutively, such was its appeal.
What happens when you bring together three sound engineers, a pedal player and an Englishman who likes to shout into a microphone? Be warned, chest. may just become your new music obsession.

Track: Lake Disappointment

Following on from singles John on the Ceiling and Infinity Peaking, bdrmm surprise us with the blistering electronics of the third single Lake Disappointment from third album Microtonic set for release on 28 February on Mogwai’s Rock Action label.
Being asked to support Daniel Avery, along with a trip to Field Day for a group rave, obviously had an impact. The band decided to incorporate more dance music elements into a sound that had already been moving steadily in that direction. Lake Disappointment is a delight. Crisp and tight, it trips along, weaving its magic, the beats beguiling and enchanting. This isn't harsh techno but more in the vein of music which worms its way into your soul and does not let go.
Guitarist and vocalist Ryan Smith had the following to say about their latest release: "Lake Disappointment is probably the most aggressive and exciting song we've conjured up. I remember sending it to Alex (our producer) and I've never seen him so excited about a track. It was such a dream to work on. I feel like within all the melancholy of the record there is a lot of anger too. This is us getting that out, and saying fuck you to the wrongdoers.
"I will always hold such a great memory of shooting the video. We ventured to an abandoned warehouse in Sheffield and recruited an amazing production team and created our own dystopian TV shopping channel (under strong orders from our bosses at MicroTech). We must have been sick for a week after from being stood around in the cold for 12 hours in hospital gowns, but it was worth it. No pain, no gain (we're still waiting for the gain)."
Further good news is that bdrmm will tour in March in support of the album.
