Our weekly fix of the best new music as Julia Mason (aka The Decibel Decoder) brings us her new music review with singles from L'objectif Goth Kids and Wynona Bleach Tangerine

Artist: L'objectif
Track: Goth Kids

Leeds alt-rock specialists L’objectif announce their signing to Dance To The Radio (Ellur, Far Caspian, Terra Twin) and share new single Goth Kids. It's the first new music since the release of their 2024 EP The Left Side.
What a thrilling return by the four-piece. Anthemic in nature but beautifully paced, this is a band who know how to create a song which rises and falls - the quiet section mid track is gloriously unexpected and the soaring part that follows is stirring. The emotive vocal of Saul Kane may lead the way but this is truly a talented four with Sam Hudson (bass), Abe Hussain (guitar) and Louis Bullock (drums) completing the band. This is indie guitar music of the highest quality.
Speaking ahead of their single release, the band stated: “Goth Kids is the longest amount of time we’ve spent on a song - we’ve been working on it for over a year. It’s been a difficult process to get right but we believed it the whole way through. Lyrically it’s a song that almost wrote itself, I don’t want to overthink the music anymore, it just felt natural, although if it is about anything I suppose it’s about figuring out how you fit into the world. It’s a pretty important song to us and has brought us through into a new chapter for the band.”
With the news that a UK headline tour is in the pipeline and work on their debut album is set to begin imminently, there is no doubt that the plaudits will flow for L'objectif in 2025.

Artist: Wynona Bleach
Track: Tangerine

Belfast based Wynona Bleach have released the third single from the band’s second album which is due for release in 2025. Tangerine is a melodic alt-rock song about wants and desires. The band share that the track "explores the delicate state one finds themselves in when they find themselves secretly crushing on someone they know they’ll never have".
Tangerine may reflect heartache, but the vibe is one of catharsis, full of powerful emotion and soaring soundscapes which perhaps acknowledges the unattainable. The vocal of Melyssa Shannon perfectly exudes the feeling of yearning, and rather than being a song full of melancholy, Tangerine is a powerful expression of the intense feelings of having a crush on someone that is out of reach.
The track was written and recorded in the band’s own working mans club ballroom come studio/rehearsal space. It was produced by Wynona Bleach guitarist Jonny Woods while being mixed and co-produced by their long standing collaborators Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh (The XX, Rufus Wainwright, Bryan Adams), who previously worked on the bands latest singles and their debut album Moonsoake (2022).
Tangerine is released two months before Wynona Bleach perform at SXSW for the second time, whilst they finalise their second album.
