Our weekly fix of the best new music as Julia Mason (aka The Decibel Decoder) brings us her reviews of new music with singles from Sløtface Ladies of The Fight and House of Protection Learn To Forget

Track: Ladies Of The Fight
Ladies Of The Fight is the new single by Sløtface, written by front woman Haley Shea in collaboration with band members Tobias Maxwell Osland (Hammok) and Simen Følstad Nilsen (Aiming for Enrike, Embla and the Karidotters).
It’s taken from their third studio album Film Buff which will be released on 27 September. Inspired by the cinematic world, Shea has created an album that feels like putting on an action movie on a Friday night, falling asleep in front of the TV and then being thrown between dreams, fiction, and reality.
Ladies of the Fight offers a glimpse into the new album. It’s packed with empowering energy, defiantly rocking out, dominated by the thunderous drums which seem to be turned up to 11. And the thrilling electric guitar which screeches to the end as if finding it hard to stop – bring on the album!
Shea expands on the inspiration behind the track: "I wrote the song during a period when I was watching a lot of Selling Sunset on Netflix, and with these characters in mind, along with other TV and film references, Ladies Of The Fight came to be. The song is also heavily inspired by an episode of 30 Rock, where the main character Liz Lemon suddenly stumbles into a fight club.
"Since the rest of the album is written with a short story approach, I wanted to continue this writing style and based it on the idea of a group of women starting their own fight club as an outlet for their frustrations. The riff in the song felt so powerful, like a battle call to me, so I wanted to write lyrics that matched it but still were silly and fun. The goal is for the song to make you feel like you can achieve anything and take control of any situation. Ladies Of The Fight is tailor-made for summer festival mosh pits. I can’t wait to play it live!"

Track: Learn To Forget
Aric Improta and Stephen Harrison are House of Protection and they have released their second single Learn to Forget on Red Bull Records. This is thrashing hardcore from the get-go. The opening screeching guitars launch straight into thunderous drums at full volume. Loved the clicking percussion element side-by-side with guttural vocals. The energy never flags throughout and although Learn to Forget has a ton of elements within it, it all works as a cohesive whole. Immediately went to listen to debut single It’s Supposed to Hurt and was not disappointed.
The accompanying video perfectly complements the new single. A fast-paced, optic assault that sees House of Protection filmed under spotlight, matching the intensity of the song with quick cuts and a fierce performance.
The duo shares the following on the new track: “Learn To Forget feels very close to home for us as musicians. The pace, the riffs, the drum fills, it all leans towards music we grew up playing. We wanted to find a way to keep that in our sound, but not be limited by it. Jordan was really good about finding ways to take that energy and blend it with the production aesthetic we used on the other tracks. It’s definitely one we look forward to playing live.”
On leaving former band Fever 333, Aric and Stephen formed House of Protection to create a safe space for creativity and chaos to thrive. They combine the worlds of hardcore, electronica, and punk, and aim to forge a space for boundless creativity and a community fuelled by chaos.
They’ve announced their first UK live show at London's Underworld (October 15th), following their debut show at LA's 1720 on September 24th.
