Fronted by Isle of Wight-born Jess Baker alongside her younger sister Boo, ugly ozo explore, among other things, themes of feminine rage, revenge and supernatural horror. Released via cult Portsmouth label Strong Island Recordings their debut single Remains tells a gutsy tale of betrayal and revenge. It's a confident first outing for the duo and blend eastern tinged heavy guitar riffs with a vocal full of intent. This is grungy shoegaze, if there is such thing, which moves into Breeders-esque alt-rock in parts before heading back to that glorious guitar riff.

Mixed by Guy Page (Coach Party), and accompanied by an occultic music video of church altars, grave digging, tarot cards and circle candles, Jess offers further insight into the track: "Remains embodies the intensity of emotions stirred by betrayal and injustice. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, ugly ozo channels the tumultuous journey of confronting a man who has wronged her in a pursuit for truth and vengeance. Through haunting melodies and eerie surf guitars, Remains captures the cathartic release of reclaiming power and seeking retribution from both the perpetrator and his allies. This song is a testament to the unyielding spirit of those who refuse to be silenced.”

Following significant support for last month's single release Ode To Clio, which saw Man/Woman/Chainsaw added to the BBC 6 Music playlist for the first time, the London-based group now share its follow-up Grow A Tongue In Time.

It's the second track to be taken from their debut EP, Eazy Peazy, set for release 8 November on Fat Possum. The track is led by a glorious vocal which holds the listener's ear, the crystal clear lyrics layering atop the violin. It's an introspective track but one which is full of emotion. The accompanying keyboard also brings such depth to the track.

The band share the following about the new single: "Grow A Tongue In Time is a stream-of-consciousness look at jealousy, desire and self-pity. This began with a very stripped back arrangement on just bass, which gradually grew as we added different elements, from droning violin to creaking bowed guitar. Although It’s a moment of calm in the chaos of the set, the song builds its own intensity without relying on aggression."

Man/Woman/Chainsaw debuted at 16 years old and across three self-released singles have proven themselves incorporating both calm joy and raucous energy in their creativity. Remarkably the band recently celebrated their 100th gig, and this November they will release their debut EP landing on the indie taste-maker label Fat Possum Records. Recorded with Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Echo Zoo studio in Eastbourne, the group present us with cinematic arrangements, mauled by moments of cacophony; the band’s Billy Ward says of their writing process, “we thrive on the thin line between pretty and noisy, often trying to jump between the two - it’s that chaos that excites us.”

The group have a busy touring schedule ahead of them, and - after 3 nights supporting Thus Love and a sold out performance at The George Tavern earlier this month - have announced their next London headliner at 100 Club for Halloween with tickets going on sale this Friday 30 August at 10am.
