Hoban Happy from Search Results is the Dublin-based trio's first single from their upcoming EP Hot Night out in December this year.
Track: Hoban Happy
Band: Search Results
Released: November 21 2024
Just as 'manifest' is declared as the Cambridge dictionary word of the year, along come Search Results with the first single from their upcoming Hot Night EP, slated for a December 2024 release. The connection?
Well this reviewer still regrets the certainty that we will never see new music from The Fall. However that doesn't stop me indulging in a little manifesting i.e. "imagining achieving something you want."
And so to that end, along comes Hoban Happy, a lo-fi (glam) racket with largely unintelligible vocals, a thumping bass line and powerhouse drums. Remind you of anyone? What a delight this track is; seemingly out of control, it careers to its feedback soaked conclusion with joyous abandon and a twang in its step. As far removed from the polished pop perfection of mainstream music as it's possible to get.
Just as The Fall invented their own C 'n' N genre (Country and Northern), Search Results appear to be honing their own although I doubt the planet's combined AI power could conjure up a name. Who cares? We're also a big fan of naming songs after band members (Adam Hoban being the bass player) although that avenue may soon be exhausted with a very stable three man lineup. Who cares? If Hoban's happy then so are we.
The new EP is available to preorder on cassette and CD via the Search Results' Bandcamp page.
