Sprints announce their debut album

Dublin garage punk foursome Sprints are releasing their debut album Letter To Self in January 2024

Dublin four piece garage punk band Sprints

Full confession - here at Blowtorch we are huge Sprints fans. We have watched from near and afar as they have fought, clawed and perservered a path to where they want to be. And now the payoff as Sprints have announced their (for us - long and eagerly awaited) debut album Letter To Self. It will release on 5th January via Germany's City Slang Records. To coincide with this excellent news, they have dropped a new single Up And Comer, AND confirmed an extensive UK/EU tour.

This is the third song we have heard from the 11 track long player (along with Adore Adore Adore and Literary Mind) so there's a welcome heap of new tracks for their rapidly growing (and rabid) fan community.

Karla Chubb is the force of nature on vocals and guitar and she tell us: “Up & Comer is a pretty dry take on a fear and self consciousness that has been ruminating in me since I picked up an instrument. This innate fear that maybe I would always be ‘good for a girl’, but would I ever actually be great? It’s an invisible narrative that has been constructed by the doubts and negativity I’ve been fed by others, as well my own imposter syndrome.

It’s a song that takes aim at the idea that some of these traits and behaviours may almost be hereditary, and instead of letting that continue to hold me back, finally break free of the expected, embrace the anger and let it rip. The only way is forward.”

Never one to avoid confronting inner turmoil, she was born in Dublin and spent a portion of her early childhood in Germany; initially turning to music as a consequence of feeling out-of-step with the world: "I lived in a constant state of existential crisis. Music became an outlet for emotion, and a way for me to understand myself and society."

Sprints songs sound like you have dropped into their local for a pint, and into the middle of a conversation with them about plotting a way through the pain of the world. They confront the anomie of modern life through stories which are not simply angry rants - they uplift and give us hope. Do not miss out.
