Limerick trio plan their Escape for the festive period
Track: Escape
Band: Static Vision
Released: December 24 2021
The final door of 2021's musical advent calendar opened to reveal Static Vision belting out their Christmas Eve release Escape. They have previous with festive releases - Strange Things came out on Christmas Day in 2020. There's a slower-paced, more ruminative feel to this track. And what a gorgeous start! It's got a sweet American alt-rock vibe to it. I'm thinking Big Star, Galaxie 500 or even Tom Petty. While less frantic than some of their punkier numbers, it retains the key Static Vision elements of melody coupled with their very own power pop paradigm. As they say themselves, their sound comes from a raw and burning desire to take the listener into their world of beautiful, simple yet distorted melody, written and played from a deep passion for what rock 'n' roll music is truly all about. Loud, youthful and heavy.
Cian from the band takes up the story - "This song is about the feeling of isolation and wanting to escape your own mind. Especially from negative thoughts and the pressures and expectations we put on ourselves. We hope this song can relate to a lot of people who these days are definitely struggling more than ever with their mental health."
"I've got something on my mind that ain't right" sings Cian with the words elongated in a beautiful falsetto worthy of Bends era Thom Yorke. "I just want to live my life, I just want to make it shine" is a mantra I suspect the majority of us are feeling after 2 years of a pandemic. This is high quality, empathetic, relatable songwriting performed by a band at the top of their game.
Bring on more of the same in 2022.
